Sarah Jones, Former NFL Cheerleader Turned Teacher Admits To Having Sex With High School Student, Avoids Jail
If Sarah Jones pleading guilty to having sex with a former student when he was 17 didn’t make it clear that the two had an intimate relationship, they hammered it home by walking out of court hand in hand.
Jones, a 27-year-old former Cincinnati Bengals cheerleader and Kentucky high school teacher, took a plea deal Monday that reduced her charge from sex abuse to sexual misconduct, WCPO-TV reported.
She got five years’ probation and cannot apply to work as a teacher again, but she won’t spend any time behind bars or be forced to register as a sex offender.
Jones copped to having a “sexual relationship and sexual intercourse” with the student while she was an English teacher at Dixie Heights High School in Crestview Hills, Ky.
Prosecutors reportedly had a hard time with the case because the victim — now 18 — sided with Jones.
Now that the student is no longer underage, “there’s absolutely nothing prohibiting [him] and Sarah from being together,” said Jones’ attorney, Eric Deters.
Jones admitted to having a “sexual relationship and sexual intercourse” with the student while she was an English teacher at Dixie Heights High School in Crestview Hills, Ky.
Her mother Cheryl also made a deal, pleading guilty to tampering with physical evidence. She told the student via text message to “get rid of the phone” that he used to exchange sexually explicit messages with Jones.
The text messages will be sealed from the public as part of the deal, in which Cheryl Jones got two years of conditional discharge plus court costs.
Deter said Jones has no plans to return to cheerleading now that she can no longer teach. In fact, she is working as a legal secretary in his office and may pursue law school, he said.
